Club Meeting October 14, 2017

Minutes

Jerry Dawson called the meeting to order with 23 members present.

At the International Food & Arts Festival held in Sept. the amount donated by the West TN Woodturners was $3,175.00. Not bad for a small club! A large presentation check will be presented to LeBonheur on Monday, Oct. 30.

Signup sheet went around to attend Frank Bowers class. Demo sheet sign up went around to anyone who hadn’t signed it at the September meeting.

Beads of Courage: Adron will pick up any Beads of Courage bowls donated and take them to the TAW Symposium.

The Woodturners/Carvers Extravaganza is taking place Oct. 27-28 in North Carolina. Anyone attending this event? If so we’d love to hear about it.

Robert Reeves did an excellent job on demonstrating how he checkers (checkering) his woodturned items. Lots of patience & skill in this! Tools needed for this skill:

Dem-Bart Checkering Tools, Inc.
1825 Bickford Ave.
Snohomish, Washington 98290
360-568-7356

Adron did an equally excellent job on the different effectiveness of glues. There’s a glue for every occasion! He also showed everyone how to look for the freshest of glues:

A 701-01-0172: (7) 2017 (01) month January (01) is the day. Tightbond glue: original= $4 Tight Bond II= $6 Tight Bond III= $8

Meanwhile there was a lot of attention centered around Jim Tusant's sharing of his sharpening skills.

The club then had lunch and headed off for some hands on lathe work along with more tool sharpening exercises.

Winner drawn for the upcoming January Symposium: Paul Reed

Raffled off a lot of wood pieces.
